How does God view His own Word, the Bible? What does He say? 

God’s Answer:  God’s Word is the only thing from this earth that we can “pack up” and take with us into heaven.  Scripture Verses:  Matthew 24:35 ~ "Heaven and earth will disappear, but MY WORDS WILL NEVER DISAPPEAR."   Isaiah 40:8;  Isaiah 55:11; Psalm 119:89; Matthew 5:18;  1 Peter 1:23, 25. The following Scripture texts show us God’s view about His “Written Word” --- His Eternal Word --- the Holy Scriptures, …the Bible.

Look these verses up in your favorite translation or version and compare them side-by-side for fresh insight, inspiration, and life application challenge goals.

Question:  What does the Old Testament say about God’s view of His Written Word?
Deuteronomy 17:18 ~  God gave instructions for the king to copy the Law in the presence of the priests and "He must always keep this copy of the law with him and read it daily as long as he lives."  (Verses 19b & 20 are also instructive.  Too bad David and Solomon disobeyed the verses of the context.)  See God’s warning in 2 Chronicles 7:17-21.  God kept His word when Solomon did not keep his.
 
2 Chronicles 34:19-21 ~  Josiah's reaction was a model response of reverence  when the scroll of the law was found.
 
Nehemiah 8:1-5 ~ Ezra's use of the "scroll of the law before the assembly" at the original "Watergate."
 
Psalm 119 ~ The whole chapter  --- especially verses 9-18, 33,34, 44, 55-57, 62, 71-75, 89, 97, 101, 103, 105 130, 133, 144, 148, 160, & 165.
 
Isaiah 40:8 ~  “The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”
 
Isaiah 55:11 ~  God speaks about His Word:  “I send it out, and it always produces fruit.  It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper every where I send it.”
 
Ezekiel 3:1-27 ~ Ezekiel was made to eat all of the scroll (vs. 1&2) and then he was commanded to become a "Watchman" for Israel.
 
Malachi 4:4 ~ The Old Testament concludes with these words: "Remember to obey the instructions of my servant Moses, all the laws and regulations that I gave him on Mount Sinai for all Israel."

QUESTION:  What does the New Testament teach about God's Word for our world?

1. JESUS CHRIST, is the "Living Word."    Question:  What does the “Written Word” --- the Bible, Holy Scriptures --- teach us about Jesus Christ, the “Living Word”?  The Gospel’s First Reference to Jesus Christ, the “Living Word.”         John 1:1,2, & 14 ~ “….“The Word became human and made His home among us.  He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.  And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s One and only Son.”   NLT Text (Cf. Revelation 19:3)

 2. Christ, the “Living Word,”Text quoted the “Written Word” (Scripture) to Satan.  Matthew 4:3,4; Mark 1:12-13; (Cf. Genesis 3:6); Luke 4:1-13; 1 John 2:16.

3.  Christ, the  “Living Word,” Preached  and  Taught  the 
“Written Word.” Luke 4:16-21 (Cf. Isaiah 61:1,2); Mark 2:2;  Luke 4:22 & 32; Luke 11:28; John 6:68; John 8:30;  John 14:24.

4. Christ the “Living Word” And “Master Teacher” modeled His use of the “Written Word” in the Sermon on the Mount..  Matthew 5:17-19; 17:5; Luke 10:25-37;  John 8:46; Romans 15:8; (Cf. Exodus 19:5)  1 Peter 2:21-23; Galatians 4:4.

5. Christ, the “Living Word’s” Answered the Religious Leaders by quoting the “Written Word.” 
John 5:33-39 NLT Text ~“…The Scriptures point to Me!” John 8:31,32.

6. Christ, the “Living Word” wants to teach us the “Written Word. 
NLT Text In Matthew 11:29 ~ “Let Me teach you,….”Text In Christ’s last prayer with  His disciples before the crucifixion He prayed that His Father would: “Make them  (His disciples) holy by Your truth; TEACH THEM YOUR WORD, which is truth.” Text (John 17:17)

7. Christ, the “Living Word’s” made a significant reference to the Holy Spirit’s special responsibility and role with the “Written Word.”   John 14:26;   (See also John 15:26,27)

8. Christ, the "Living Word" promised that the "Good News" of His Salvation would encircle the whole earth by the end.  Matthew 24:14 ~  Jesus promised that His Gospel would be "preached  throughout the whole world so that all nations will hear it and then,  finally the end will come."

9.  Christ, the “Living Word’s” last references to the “Written Word.”  Christ’s last references to the Scriptures came during the resurrection appearances.
   Luke 24:26-27, & 32; 27Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself….” Matthew 28:18-20; (Cf. Luke 6:12-16 &  1 Corinthians 15:6);   Luke 24:44-48; Acts 1:1-3)

How did Christ's Apostles view God's Word, the Bible?
